Personal hygiene of the care given to the body is very important during menstruation. The blood that flows during menstruation has a distinct smell and may become odorous if habits of cleanliness are not observed. The following should be done to promote personal hygiene and good health during menstruation:
1. Take a short and brick bath daily. Use lukewarm water. Dry the skin well. Avoid going outdoord immediately after taking a bath.
2. Get plenty of rest and sleep.
3. Get as much fresh air as you can but avoid getting cold.
4. Have a well-balanced diet. Eat nutritious and easily digested food during the period. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat liver, dried fruits, leafy vegetables and nuts to maintain vitality during the period. However, avoid eating too much. It is also important to drink from six to eight glasses of water daily.
5. Use sanitary napkins or pads to avoid staining your clothes with blood. Change these as often as necessary to avoid the drying of blood on your underwear or clothes.
6. Wrap used sanitary pads in paper and dispose properly.
7. Change underwear as often as needed.
