Understanding what you read

Reading is life. It feeds the mind and quenches the hungry soul to learn and know the truth about many things. Reading brings contentment of the self. It invigorates the living spirit in satisfaction that will lead him to all sorts of places whether fancy, adventure, suspense, serious or magical. But people find that there is a problem in reading - How to better grasp understanding of what one read? It boils down to know the reading processes. 

In reading, there are what we call prereading, guided reading and postreading strategies. Let us learn them one by one. 

Prereading uses background knowledge where we have acquired about the world form then we assess new information and incorporate it. Oftentimes, we use predictions about the new information to which we are exposed. For example, a birthday party leads to activate our background knowledge about cakes, candles, food and gifts.

Part of prereading is the sharing of the group's knowledge. This is what we call as Group Discussion. Indeed, numerous heads are better than one. In groups, many ideas will be shared. One idea might not be the same with the other. In this kind of process, one can learn from the others. Their shared information brings the perfect definition of cooperation. 

We have also the so-called Semantic Mapping. It is form in a graphic format that provides organizing ideas so that relationships become more clearer. This gives the learners the opportunity to share what they know in a logical manner.
