Filipino Food that I missed.

Being in the US calls most of the time to think about my hometown, the Philippines. Aside from my family whom I surely miss, I miss to eat this Filipino food a lot. 

This food is perfectly right for a balanced meal. There is the vegetables dish (carrots, peas, squash, sayote, etc.). The meat is tender and delicious with "lumpia" (rolled with meat in a cover), this wins my taste. Not only that, the dessert is so perfect! It is called "mango float". It is composed of cracker with mango and creams inside. It is best when cold. And not to forget, the rice which is the every pair of our meal everyday.

I really miss this food and luckily, I am that thankful I had a taste of them now. 

Medical Terminology (Rules and Examples)

Nursing is really exciting. Of all the subjects in Nursing, the one that takes me into lighter load is my Medical Terminology class because I will just have to familiarize the prefixes and suffixes from its root in order to come up with the desired meaning of the terms or the words.

I take down notes as my teacher goes along with the discussion and here are the essential things that I have written.

Medical Terminology-words/terms make up the language of medicine
-majority of items are based in Latin and Greek
-serves as a universal language

Four Parts:
1. stem/root - gives the essential meaning of the term
2. prefix - added to the beginning of the term
3. suffix - placed after a word
4. linking of combining vowels - connects roots to suffixes or roots

Word Building:
1. Knowing how to divide a medical term
2. Knowing the meaning of the term's components
Examples: Dermat/o/logy - derm (root), o (combining vowel), Logy (suffix)
dermat = skin and logy = sutdy of, therefore, dermatology is the study of skin

Combining Form
-combination of root and combining vowel
Example: Gastroenterology = the combination forms of gastro and entero

Rules on some exceptions on combining forms and combining vowels

*For suffixes like -ic, -ac, -itis or begins with a vowel, the combining vowel is dropped.
*Words ending in -ic and -ac are adjectives and mean "pertaining to"
Example: Gastric = Gastr/ic _ pertaining to the stomach

*Keeping a combining vowel between two root words, even if the second root word begins with a vowel.
Example: Gastroenteritis = Gastr/o/enter/itis

Basic Rules in Word Building
1. Read the suffix to the beginning of the word and then across.
2. Drop the combiing vowel before the suffic starts with a vowel.
3. Keep the combining vowel between word roots, even when the second root begins with a vowel.
4. The combining vowel has no meaning. It is an important connector between roots and suffixes. The letter "o" is usually the combining vowel found in the medical term.
5. The combining vowel helps you divide the term into its parts.
6. The combining vowel makes a complete word that can be pronounced easily.

-not all medical term contains a prefix
-divided into categories of meaning depending on how they modify the stem, such as location, time, amount, color, negation, size or position.

What is a man?

Learning about man prompts me to tell something based from my own understanding. If I were to define what a man is, I sort it out in a level of how I view it.

Man is composed of body parts like the body systems, organs, muscles, bones and senses for him to work. In him comes the structures of cells which actively nourished his totality to be alive. Man can't function well if his physical well-being is having a problem because he can't act or react to different situations manifested in expected reactions.

Man is a social being. He can't live alone. He needs the presence of many people around him, his family, friends and the people in the society. He used to communicate to different kinds of people and transmit messages for better communication. He needs the presence of individuals around him so that he can adjust to different life's approaches and challenges.

Man is an intellectual being. He has the capacity to think critically and rationally. The way he perceives things means the activation of his learning. In his thinking ability, he can be mature and knowledgeable to decide on what should be the best possible response for a certain stimuli.

Man is an emotional being. He has the capacity to feel and get hurt. He reacts to pain, frustrations, depressions, etc. in a way on how deep the feelings are. He has the capacity to feel love and be loved. He can understand to adjust to different feelings and react to situations. He is composed of free will.

Man is a spiritual being. He clings to his belief in residing to the power of God. He knows that everything in this world are created in the hands of God. He forms his own philosophy that is in accordance to what is proper and just. He believes in the Divine Power. 

Adele's "Turning Tables"

I really love Adele. She is really a beautiful woman with a very amazing voice. Today, I can't stop listening to the songs of her album, "21". Her song, "Turning Tables" is one of my favorite. It reflects her bravery to face and be strong after feeling the extreme hurt out from a shattered relationship. It is a very wonderful song. I love the lyrics, the combinations of the use of the instruments, the music and the tone. I really love everything of this song. Hearing this song makes me aware and moved to positively go on in life with determination and to never look back on my bitter past.

Happy Father's Day!

Today is the Father's Day! And just this morning I directly greeted my father. He is in the province together with my stepmother. I remember so many things that my father does for us when we are still young.

He teaches us how to read, write and spell. He sends us in school and gives us delicious food for school. I can remember that during weekends, we seem to have always spend picnic at the beach and going into the mall for shopping and dining at the finest restaurants. My father is like a friend to us. He is that understanding and approachable person. He is the love of the town for he is that friendly. He ran as a government official and experienced winning as well as losing. 

Our father is the best father in the world. We never experience harsh punishment from him. When we commit mistakes, he just talk to us openly as if we are having a one-on-one talk. He discusses things to us and make us aware more about life. He is always there for us at all times. He provides us with better education and values that are truly indeed life-inflicting. 

I always am proud of my father. He is the great father in this world. And I thank God for giving us with him in our family. My father has much love to my mother. I love to see them both happy and are enjoying in life. I love to see my father and mother happy always. It is because of each other of them that makes our life so meaningful. They are just perfect parents in this world and I love them both. 

But for my father, I thank him always. I want that when I will get married, I can have the kind of husband just like my father. I love you Tatay! Happy Father's Day!

Ear Thermometer for Detecting Fever

Detecting my baby's temperature if he has a fever or not is this easy. I use the ear thermometer which I recently bought and it makes me easy to check the condition of my baby. 

All I need to do is to insert lightly the tip of the ear thermometer on my baby's ear and then I long press the button and the light pops up with the accurate reading. This is pretty simple to use and it is safer as well. I don't need to worry about the presence of mercury for this ear thermometer displays no element of mercury present.

Just like in the olden times before when I was still young, my mother used to use the thermometer having the kind of mercury on it to check my temperature. That was indeed before. Of course, ear thermometer is much safer because it has been confirmed that the presence of mercury in a thermometer may bring harm to the body or the skin when the thermometer will be broken and searching for the mercury where it lands find more havoc if it lands in the skin. That will surely bring all the damages.

Bambi's Birthday

Last June 5 of this year, we celebrated the 34th birthday of Bambi, my sister. I bought her a birthday cake, a  half gallon of ice cream and grilled whole chicken. 

The birthday celebration is just so simple but we had a lot of fun. The cake is so sweety delicious and the ice cream is that so cold. We are having a lot of birthday fun! 

What to do (deciding your child to be hospitalized)

The best lesson that I have learned today comes from the most that I should always remember and that pertains to deciding my baby to be hospitalized. 

Indeed, the payment for all the expenses in the hospital as I decide my baby to be hospitalized is really that high. But there is this way of making the expense in just a meager amount, that is, when I seek the advise of the doctor first before I made up the decision to let him admitted into the hospital. 

For three days, I spent so much money in order to pay for all the expenses in the hospital and it costs about $400 plus. The professional fee of the doctor is so high and I was not satisfied with the doctor's service because she seems too harsh in words in secret means. I heard her saying some real bad comments at the nurse station at the desk as I was about to get inside my baby's room. 

The room's payment is so high. The medicine are that costly and so with the things that the nurse has giving him. All are so expensive. But nevertheless, I am so happy that my baby is finally okay. 

But the sad part is that, I felt I was not fairly treated financially and professionally by the doctor. I said to myself that I will not ever seek help from that doctor anymore. I will find good doctor for my baby but I do hope that my baby will not be sick again. 

Miley Cyrus is engaged.

These two lovers are now planning to get married. In fact, Miley Cyrus, according to reports, she is now engaged. 

Hemsworth, 22 years old and Miley, 19 years old were already on their way to marriage as Hemsworth proposed to her last May 31. 

A lot of speculations circled in the web about their decision on settling down at a very young age. Many are in par with them and there are those who don't. 

Marriage is a right to everyone who wants to choose to live with the man/woman he or she loves and build family of their own with children. They are bound for commitment and lifetime promise of taking the role and the responsibility as married couple. Because of the many angles that drives people to ask "Why settling at an early age?" But again, it is their decision and it is their right. 

Deciding to get married at an early age is not really a problem if and only if they are financially capable and for the both of them, they have all the money they could spend. They are not getting any problem in raising their kids in the future because they are that capable to provide their every need. What is really a problem in marriage and I think the most that tops the break-up is that when the couple are not that secured and when they are not circling understanding within them.

As long as they love each other, then go and get married. As long as they can provide everything for the welfare and future of their family and children, then go get married. As long as there is true love and that no one will hurt each other, then go and get married. 

Getting married as what I always heard of in married couples is not easy. But all challenges in the couples' lives will be erased if they love each other and they will both work hard for each other's and their children's needs in love and growing. 

For Miley and Hemsworth, marriage comes in their own decision and the reason is love. 

Happy Birthday Bambi!

Today is the big birthday of my sister, Bambi and she turns 34 years old. Just as every birthday celebration would always have, we had the chocolate cake, ice cream, grilled chicken and cola. Though food brings not more on the importance but what is really necessary is that she is happily and healthily growing together with us.

It is just so sad that mother (deceased) is not here.  

Stereo Stand

All should be in its proper place. Just like your stereo set, it needs the right place.

Everything in a home displays harmony and just like the stereo that is right at our living room, it deserves the right place. Because of stereo stand, it makes everything possible for us and hearing the great music and songs of our favorite singers are that of high impact. Cooper: There is always a hope. (Toddler with Cochlear Implants)

Seeing this video which aired on the famous site makes me feel in tears as I have seen hope in the eyes of this young boy.

Cooper is a 2-year-old toddler and he went under cochlear implants. His family is not expecting that their son will have a problem with his ear because never in the family having such kind of a problem, until they have found out that their genes has something to do with it.

But in spite of what happens to the young boy, still he is that super lucky to have hope in the midst of this difficulty in hearing. He is now hearing something in the environment and right from his mother's voice, he now knows how it feels to be heard and to hear what is going on around him.

This kind of story is ever inspiring that we are blessed in some ways, that God never lets us hopeless, but instead we are overpoweringly guided by His unconditional love. Even in the midst of our difficulties, He is always there to help and lift us up.

This is a reflective kind of reality that valuing life and taking care of what God has given us is still the most that makes us all happy and alive. And for this boy, he is with a lot of hope. I am very much happy for him.

Baby saved by the garbage truck driver (Runaway Stroller)

I have seen the news that speculates in the world wide web that talks about a garbage truck driver in the person of Jeff Blackburn who saved the life of a baby in a runaway stroller. Good thing that he found out that a stroller ,with a baby on it, that was rolling in the steep street moves its way into the hands of this person.

A lot of this incidence can happen anytime. We feel that all are in secured manner that trusting to valuable things for our baby seem we grip our 100% trust. But the case here doesn't point out on the stroller itself but the mother who losses control of the stroller in the steep street.

Babies do need extra care but no matter how careful parents are, there is always those tests of times that may "havoc", "challenged" and even "learned" us in many ways.

This is another great lesson for us, mothers or parents all around the world that taking care of our babies are delicately a 24/7 and on-the-eyes vigilance. We are like surveillance camera that goes around and around in the system of their world with all our strengths and musts.

It can't be denied that we are not perfect. But handling more care and watchful acts are the only sole evidence that we can embrace them from safety, secured and more protected life.

The mother of the baby losses control and we are of the same as hers. No matter how we are going to take care of our baby, there are instances that calls for problems and challenges that tests our every strengths and vigilance.
